Description
Alternanthera Lilacina is a striking aquarium plant known for its vibrant purple and lilac-red leaves that bring bold color and contrast to freshwater tanks. Native to South America, this plant is popular among aquascapers for its beauty and versatility, often used as a midground or background feature. It grows moderately fast and can reach 8 to 20 inches tall under ideal conditions. To maintain its rich color, Alternanthera Lilacina requires medium to high lighting and benefits greatly from CO₂ supplementation. It thrives in slightly acidic to neutral water with temperatures between 72–82°F and a pH range of 6.0–7.5. A nutrient-rich substrate and regular fertilization, especially with iron, help it stay vibrant and healthy. With regular trimming, it develops a compact, bushy appearance, and stem cuttings can easily be replanted to propagate new growth. This plant is perfect for adding a deep, colorful accent to planted aquariums and pairs beautifully with green aquatic plants like Ludwigia repens and Rotala rotundifolia.
